By an Act of Parliament (ZCAS Act No. 1 of 1989), the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) established the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS) with the objectives of training accountants, advancing research and education in accountancy, finance, and related studies, providing advisory and consultancy services, and for related matters. As a self-financing, non-profit institution, ZCAS has several key mandates:

1. Training Accountants: ZCAS provides professional training in accountancy and related fields.
2. Research and Advancement of Learning: The institution promotes research and continuous learning in accountancy, finance, and related studies.
3. Advisory and Consultancy Services: ZCAS offers advisory and consultancy services to organizations and individuals.
4. Other Related Matters: ZCAS engages in activities related to its core mission.

At first, NORAD, DANIDA, and the European Union provided donor support to ZCAS. However, ZCAS has been entirely self-sufficient and dependent on the money it receives for its training and consulting services for the past twenty-seven (27) years. ZCAS has been able to maintain its activities on its own even though it is a public organization. This is a stellar record that speaks highly of the ZCAS staff, management, and board.
